Trout Fishing & Fly Fishing in North Carolina
The Mitchell River offers excellent fishing opportunities for both the novice and expert fisherman. Public access to the river begins at the bridge located at the intersection of Kapps Mill Road and River Road and ends .6 miles upstream from the end of Grover Cockerham Road. Landowners along the river, most notably the owner of the Mitchell River House, Sheff Olinger, in co-operation with state and federal agencies, have generously donated time and resources to this public access program. Please show your appreciation by being respectful of the property owners. The river is a natural resource that all of us can enjoy, whether we are sportsmen or just sightseers. We are all stewards of the land – let's preserve the beauty for those who follow in our footsteps. Don't litter!
The Mitchell River is a delayed harvest trout stream, and is stocked in the months of March, April, May, October and November with brook, rainbow and brown trout. For more information please visit the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission website.
